Friends of Webster Trails Board Minutes
Monday, July 14, 2008
Webster Community Center

Attendees: Rich Morrill, Sue Stonewell, Dennis Kuhn, Hal Harris, Don Baird, Jeff Darling, Rick Taddeo, Bob Guenther, Sharon Galbraith, John Bok, Karen Mischler

Everyone:  Review the May minutes and contact Karen Mischler with any changes.
Treasury Report:  The treasury stands at approx. $3641-.
Membership Report:  There are 70 memberships.  There were also some people who sent in gifts to FWT as “wedding gifts.”  Dennis sent thank you notes to the donors.

At the August meeting we will discuss an idea on a separate class of members who donate “gifts.”  Perhaps it could be “Friends of Members” or “Associate Members.”
Dennis will put some thoughts together regarding this matter with different options.

Rich Morrill will resign as of the next meeting.  FWT will need to vote on a president.
Hal, Ted and Dennis met.  The approach of the committee was that the job of president can be spread around a little bit more (example: scout project coordinator, email question response person, etc.)

Sunday Hikes:
The August hike (8/17) is Rifle Range trail and Rich will lead it.
Sharon Galbraith will lead the October hike (Big Woods)
Bob Guenther will lead the January hike at the Whiting Rd. Nature Preserve.

The board voted and decided that FWT Sunday hikes should be in the Weekend section of the Democrat and Chronicle.
Sue Stonewell will take care of this on a monthly basis (as Communications Chair.)

The June FWT Annual Meeting was successful.  Jack Kerson seemed very pleased at our recognition of him and the plaque for him turned out beautifully.  Jim Howe gave a terrific presentation as well.

Don will speak with Karen Sieligman, as she is now freelance, to find out how FWT can get coverage.

The ADK Expo went well.  Ted, Dennis, Rick and Sharon participated on behalf of FWT at the booth.

Everyone:  The Spaghetti dinner at the Masonic Lodge is scheduled for the first Friday in October (10/3/08).  Dennis will organize the dinner although he will not be there to direct.

Scout Projects:
Chris Tyler will build an info. kiosk at the Big Woods.  The costs will be covered from the treasury.
Alan Beadle want to build a bridge on the Koza property.
Ryan Polk will build benches, a kiosk and bird houses for the Bird Sanctuary Trail.
Brian Charland has completed his design.
Part of the 25K grant can be used to cover the cost of Brian Charland’s project and can be used on the trail coming up from Pellet Rd.

Don will speak with Mark Yaeger about the 25K.
Whiting Rd. to Webster Park.
Pellet Rd. connect trail.
Bridge at Vosburg Hollow.

Brochures:  There are only 200 remaining brochures.  Another 1,000 need to be printed.

Webster Village Days:  August 16
Dennis, Sharon, Rick, Bob G., Don and John Rider volunteered to help with the Village Days.
Jeff will get the needed items together and will hand them over to Dennis.
Dennis to set up for Village Days.
Rich will get canopy from David Conway.
There should be a hat box for contributions.

Trails Committee:  The next trail committee project will be to deal with the swallow wart problem.  The cross-country team will work on the smaller field (woody plants) at Whiting Rd.
Don will coordinate the cross-country team.

Dennis will give Matt Frank a year’s unpaid membership for his work mowing.

501C(3) status:  Jack Kerson got together with Dave Mayer to look into this.  Dave needs the FWT corporation papers.

2008 Goals:  We will continue to get requests for scout projects.  FWT should have a list of items to suggest.

Passport Program:  Don went over the proof for the passport program on Saturday.  It will start the 1st week on September and go until June.  If someone gets all 10 trail rubbings they will get a $100- certificate from Wegmans.
Everyone:  FWT needs to put in 3 rubbing posts. (2 in Webster Park and 1 on Bird Sanctuary Trail)

Next Board Meeting:  Monday, August 11 at 7:15 PM at the Webster Community Ctr.
