Assets

  • Working funds: Muller grant  $2600 (unrestricted).
  • Nursery inventory: ~100 trees ready to plant
  • Stakes/protective sleeves – Norma and Paul to do inventory of what we have and need.
  • Maintenance of stuff in the field: Habitat Committee and others

April Work day

  • April 20 Earth Day nursery work day – potting of Andy’s seedlings, new purchases, seeds
    • Buy some compost with funds – John to coordinate
  • Habitat to do some spring planting
  • Seed-starting event – Maybe partner with WHS environmental science class. Norma to follow up.

Monitoring and Maintenance

  • Census of current planting and report to FWT Board. Plan for after leaf-out.
  • Clearing of invasive growth from plantings. Habitat Committee to be first line of work.

Nursery maintenance.  Parks/Rec will provide water this year.

Planting plans

  • Use up current nursery inventory. Habitat Committee and ReTree to do spring planting days.

Clearing: Completed in January

New plants ordering

  • White Oak Nursery – 25 2-year-old trees, ideally for WRNP Orange/Pink. Decision on exactly what plants by May 1. Andy in charge.
  • State/County – Maybe 50 or so. Norma to do order.
    • Sweet Gum – from state: 25
    • Tulip Tree – from county: 10
    • Hazelnut – 10 from county
    • Seed stock
  • Understory flowering stuff – Paul in charge.

Outreach:  (scouts/shools/ ans)

  • Publicity. Look at issuing press releases as work is scheduled/completed.
  • Outreach.  We still need to involve schools and scouts
  • John and Alicia to look into lawn signs to go with each planting.
  • Consider a tree/seed giveaway. Maybe for Arbor Day

New blood: Look for ways to increase volunteers.
