October 25, 2025 ReTree Work Day

  • use the oldest and largest plants from the nursery
  • work at one site (two, max)

Overview

  • Location: WRNP black and blue trail, plus 4 trees in the yellow trail
  • Crew leaders: Attendees
  • Plant selections
    • Highbush cranberry – 2
    • Large oak – 1 (needs cage)
    • Ninebark – 6
    • Mulberry – 4 (need cages)
    • Hazelnut – 3 (need cages)
    • Hornbeam – 7
    • Sweet gum – 1
    • Yellow trail: 1 each of oak, white pine, sycamore, and tulip tree
    • Identify up to 6 more if there’s lots of volunteers

Work ahead of workday

  • Mark planting locations and clear brush:
    • Carolyn and Bruce to place on 10/10 at 9am; and another date as needed; Norma to help clear with hedge trimmer. Meet at Whiting Road parking lot
    • Norma to buy more flags if needed
  • Deliver plants to site
    • Friday 10/24: Sarah, Norma, John, Carolyn @9am at the nursery
    • Volunteers move plants on day of to planting locations from parking lot
  • Deliver water for planting
    • John – 12 gallons
    • Carolyn – 5-gallon bucket
  • Cage materials
    • Needed for mulberry, oak, hazelnut, and John’s 4 plants: 12 total
    • Norma to buy 100 feet of fencing
    • Precut fencing – Norma and Bruce with date TBD. Cages should be 2-foot or 3-foot diameters.
    • Zip ties – Sarah to buy 8-inch ties
  • Cardboard rounds: Carolyn
  • Stakes and labeling/marker tape – Norma
    • Inventory of stakes needed – Norma
  • Wheelbarrows/wagons – deliver day before or early day of
    • wheelbarrow and wagon from John and Norma
