Grant Award Funds Hojack Improvements

Enhancements coming to the Hojack

Friends of Webster Trails is thrilled to announce the receipt of a grant for $181,086 from the Ralph C. Wilson, Jr Trails Maintenance Funds, administered by the Community Foundation for Greater Buffalo, and matching funds from a generous member of the local community, to improve part of the Hojack Trail.

The grant and matching funds will cover the entire cost of resurfacing the Hojack Trail from Holt Road to Drumm Road, in addition to adding drainage, plantings, signage, and benches.

Crushed stone base layer for the trail during construction.

“The Hojack Trail is one of Webster’s gems, and this project will make it shine even brighter for the thousands of people who use the trail each year,” said Sarah White, secretary and social media coordinator for FWT. “Each part of the project addresses an area of focus from a community survey conducted in the spring, and it enhances the trail’s connection to other parts of the community.”

FWT was founded in 1997 in large part to help maintain the Hojack Trail, so this project harkens back to those roots.

Work began last month, and the new stone surface is scheduled to be done by mid-August. Other parts of the project will be completed over the next several months.

Key support for the project has been provided by RG&E, an Avangrid company, and the Town of Webster, owners of the trail section being improved.
