No More Mud, Thanks to Scout Project

Scout builds boardwalk over muddy trail

Liam Ernst of BSA Troop 108 wanted his Eagle Scout project to be “substantial.” Adding more than 150 feet of puncheon boardwalk to the Orange Trail in Four Mile Creek Preserve fit the bill.

Over multiple days, Liam coordinated a score of volunteers to haul in the lumber, dig out stumps and roots, level the supports, and build the boardwalk, raising the trail above what was usually a mess of mud, and in the spring was sometimes unpassable.

Four Mile Creek has been a frequent site of volunteer work for Liam, who had volunteered there with the Webster Cross Country Team each July for the last several years. This project is something of a capstone for his efforts in the Preserve, and Friends can’t thank him enough.
