Historic Storm Damages Trails

Flooding has affected many of Webster’s preserves

On Sept. 9, 2024, in a few short hours, between four and six inches of rain fell in Webster. Every square foot of Webster received at least 2.5 gallons of water. Every. Single. Foot.

Many of Webster’s preserves are built around the creeks that drained all of that water towards Lake Ontario. And it was a lot of drainage.

Tuesday morning revealed the damage. Trails eroded. Boardwalks and puncheons flooded out of place. Bridges broken.

Some preserves escaped with no or minimal damages, but others will require considerable restoration efforts. Those include the Hojack Trail, Vosburg Nature Preserve, John Ungar Trail, and Four Mile Creek Preserve. In addition, trees are down in many areas.

Repairs are already underway, but some work will take longer to complete. Friends of Webster Trails encourages everyone to use caution as they enjoy our preserves, and to be patient.
